Jenny is new Champion

Jenny Potter is Lanarkshire Champion for her first time after defeating Susan Wood 1 up. In a very good final played in cold and very wet conditions Jenny had a good start going two up after 2 and then went to  3 up with a birdie 3 at the 5th then 4 up with a par at the 6th. Susan then fought back winning the 10th, the 12th with a birdie 3, the 13th and the 15th to level the match. Jenny then birdied the 16th and halved the 17th and 18th to win the title
Congratulations Jenny.
Congratulations also to Mary Francis McCaughley, the winner of the Bronze Trophy.

Death of Margaret Samson

It is with much sadness that I report the death today of Margaret Samson. Margaret, a member and Past Captain of Strathaven Golf Club was for many years a very active member of LLCGA until due to ill health she was no longer able to participate in competitions. She did, however, maintain an interest in her club and the County. Indeed she had planned to accompany me on a buggy to view both the changes to Strathaven Golf Course and the latter stages of the Championship this week. Unfortunately it was not to be.
Margaret was a devoted carer of her disabled sister for many years until she died a few years ago. She was talented at painting and crafts and kindly gifted most of her work to others.
Margaret bore her final illness over the last 8 months with great spirit and optimism. Her condition deteriorated over the last few weeks and she died today in Hairmyers Hospital.
Margaret outlived all her family members but we extend our deepest sympathy to her very close friends and neighbours.

Update on President Anne Burden

Last Tuesday Anne was transferred to the NHS Continuance of Care Unit at Mearnskirk House where she will be for the foreseeable future. Her family are still seeing small improvements but sadly Anne is unlikely to regain her movement or speech so she will probably be unable to join us at any of our Competitions or events this year.
She still gets lovely cards, letters and photographs from her friends which her family read to her and they will welcome updates from the County especially as she is still not able to have any visitors There is no wi fi at Mearnskirk  so they cannot show her the website but her Husband, Andy, looks at it and updates her with news on how we are all doing. Anne has always been interested in how the County Ladies and Juniors are faring and the family wish everyone well in the coming County Championship and the County season.
Thank you to Bobbi and the family for this update. We send them all our thanks and best wishes. We will miss Anne very much at our events this year.
