Change of Venue for Winter Training Today

The team squad had their winter training on a glorious Autumn day at Gleneagles golf club today. Six of the squad,( Lesley Lloyd, Emma Caddow, Susan Wood, Susan McGrenaghan, Rachel Cassidy and Kirsten Brown ) played a friendly match against Stirling University and won all three of their fourball matches. Ellie Bryce played for Stirling University.
The other members of the squad played fiercely contested matches against their fellow squad members.
Unfortunately due to the frost and lack of temporary greens  the tee off was delayed until the afternoon and so the matches had to be played over 9 holes. Never the less we all thoroughly enjoyed the day.
Thanks are due to our coach, Lesley Mackay, who organised the day.

Eight girls and eight boys from all over Scotland played two holes each and Molly was in Captain Watson’s team which was narrowly defeated by Paul McGinley’s team in front of a huge crowd and television crews and photographers , not to mention Ryder Cup Ambassadors Jodie Kidd, James Nesbit, Ruud Gullit , Alan Hansen and JLS’s Marvin Humes. Molly was also interviewed by Dougie Donnelly and listed Lanarkshire’s win of the Kennedy Salver as the highlight of her golfing year so far. At the par three tenth hole the girls played in Paul McGinley's team and the boys with Tom Watson in a competition to see who could hit the ball closer to the pin than their respective captains. Molly was one of four girls to beat Paul McGinley winning herself four tickets for the Thursday Practice Day and Opening Ceremony.

Midlothian win Scottish County Finals

Midlothian are County Champions for 2013 after a nail biting finish on Sunday at Stirling Golf Club..  Midlothian won their morning foursomes against the Borders 2-1 and Aberdeenshire trailed Renfrewshire by the same margin.  With Aberdeenshire only needing a half match to take the title it appeared their destiny was still in their hands, however Renfrewshire still had a chance for the title and they ran out eventual winners 5-4. Midlothian knew they needed to win all of their singles matches to be in with a chance and they managed that in convincing style.  As the three teams all had 2 match wins it went down to a countback and with the game points tied it all came down to holes played in winning matches with Midlothian beating Aberdeenshire by 1hole.

Scottish Girls' Championship Update

Apologies for the delay in giving a further report on the Scottish Girls Championship.
Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies) is the 2013Scottish Under-18 girls' champion following a 4 and 3 victory over Tara Mactaggart (Minto) in the sun-drenched final at Ranfurly Castle.
The 16-year-old was an impressive four under par for the 15 holes played.
The Lanarkshire Girls were all knocked out in the second round of matchplay but played well. Eva O'Connor  lost  to the eventual winner, Connie Jaffrey. Kirsten Brown lost to the eventual runner up Tara McTaggart. Ellie Bryce , having defeated one Scotland internationalist was beaten by another, Heather Munro.
Katie Scott was unfortunate to lose at the 19th to the eventual winner of the Ansley Reid Salver, Emma Greenlees from Dumfries & County.
