Scottish County Champions 1989

The last time Lanarkshire won the Scottish County Finals was in 1989 at Prestwick for the second year in a row.  Below is an extract from a magazine called Lanarkshire Golfer. Fiona McKay is now Fiona Norris andAllison Johnston is now better known as Allison Bell.

Midlothian win Scottish County Finals

Midlothian are County Champions for 2013 after a nail biting finish on Sunday at Stirling Golf Club..  Midlothian won their morning foursomes against the Borders 2-1 and Aberdeenshire trailed Renfrewshire by the same margin.  With Aberdeenshire only needing a half match to take the title it appeared their destiny was still in their hands, however Renfrewshire still had a chance for the title and they ran out eventual winners 5-4. Midlothian knew they needed to win all of their singles matches to be in with a chance and they managed that in convincing style.  As the three teams all had 2 match wins it went down to a countback and with the game points tied it all came down to holes played in winning matches with Midlothian beating Aberdeenshire by 1hole.
