Anne awarded Honorary Membership

At last night's AGM Anne Walker was awarded Honorary Membership of LLCGA.

Anne (far left) with the Stanford University Women's Team.

Anne was a member of our Lanarkshire Ladies County Team in the late 1990s. She was a Scottish Junior International and was part of the successful Scotland team that won the Junior Home Internationals at Mullingar GC in Ireland in 1998. Anne left Strathaven in 1998 to take up a golf scholarship at Berkeley University in San Francisco but in the summer of 1999 returned to the UK and won the Welsh Open Strokeplay Championship.
In America, Anne then found success and individual honours in the Division 1 NCAA collegiate scene and having a very successful individual career was inducted into the California Athletics Hall of Fame and was awarded the PAC-10 Medal of Honour as Berkeley’s top graduating female-student athlete.
Anne stayed on in America after graduating as an Assistant Coach at her alma mater Berkeley before being named as Head Coach at UC Davis in 2008 where she was a winning ‘Coach Of The Year’ 3 times. She took UC Davis from a Division 2 team to Division 1. In 2012, Anne was named the Margot & Mitch Director of Women’s Golf at Stanford University where she still is today.  Stanford is one of the most prestigious universities in USA and since Anne was appointed as their coach they have enjoyed unprecedented success. Anne has become a well-known and respected head coach and has led the Stanford team to numerous successes including winning the National Championship in 2015 and then runners up in 2016. Indeed
Anne was also selected to coach the ‘International Team’ at the inaugural 2018 Arnold Palmer Cup at Evian Resort Golf Club in France.
Resident in America, Anne is married to her husband Chris and has two daughters, Emma and Isla.
Anne due to living in the US was unable to attend the AGM but she sent the following acceptance.

"I am humbled by this gracious gesture and want to thank everyone involved with the process. I am grateful for the support of the Lanarkshire Ladies Golf Association and very proud to be named an Honorary Member alongside women that I consider to be some of Scotland's finest golfers. My early years in the game were certainly shaped by County golf and the friendships I made playing in the medals, jamborees and attending the winter training sessions at the Hamilton range! Thank you to all the women that have continued to welcome juniors to these events and helped them develop a passion for golf, the same way you did for me. I hope everyone has a wonderful evening and thank you again!"

Many Congratulations Katie- Selected to Represent Scotland

From the  Iowa Western Reivers Website

Freshman Katie Graham was recently selected to represent her home country of Scotland at the 'The Spirit International Golf Championship' in Whispering Pines Golf Club, Texas. The tournament brings together a 4-person team consisting of 2 men and 2 women from countries from around the world and will take place Nov. 1st thru Nov. 7th.

The Spirit International Golf Championship remains the premier showcase for the world's top amateurs. It was formed in 1999, by Houston philanthropist Corbin (Corby) J. Robertson, Jr. . With a passionate vision Corby turned the SGA into reality by establishing a unique charitable organization that benefits health-related causes while promoting the global goodwill of amateur golf.

The Spirit alumni have gone on to win over 650 professional titles, 25 major championships and 17 Olympic appearances. They include 16 PGA Tour winners, 25 European Tour winners, 23 LPGA Tour winners and 21 Ladies European Tour winners.

"I'm honoured to be able to represent my home country of Scotland as well as Iowa Western and look forward to playing with my teammates," said Graham. "I'm really happy where my golf game is right now, and I'm excited to learn more about this event and the different contributions this organization provides."

Katie will team up with fellow Scottish golfers: Carmen Griffiths (University of Louisville), Eric McIntosh (Northwestern University) & John Paterson (Colorado University). This is a great honour for Katie and a great promotion of Iowa Western Community College and recognition of our golf program.

Death of County Stalwart Margaret Duncanson

It is with much sadness that I announce the death of Margaret Duncanson who died peacefully in her sleep  on Thursday at the age of  97.

She was a great supporter of the County. She was secretary from 1982-93 .

She was, for a number of years, secretary of the Scottish Counties Association  until it was taken over by the SLGA. She cut the cake at the Scottish Counties Centenary celebration in Edinburgh.

Margaret was a member of Cawder Golf club .  She continued her interest in the club and in the  County. She last attended the Coffee Morning in 2018 when the top photograph was taken.

She recently moved into a nursing home where she died.

Susan is the Captain of Scottish Team for European Team Championship

Susan Wood is the non playing captain of the Scottish team this week at the European Ladies Team Championship at Royal County Down in Northern Ireland.

After the first day Scotland lie in second place behind the Czech Republic.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Each team is made up of six players. Over Day’s 1 & 2 all players complete two individual stroke play rounds. The team’s five best scores out of six from each day count towards their stroke play qualifying totals.

Based on finishing position in the stroke play qualifying, the top eight teams from each championship qualify for the medal-contention Flight A bracket.

The format for the three remaining competition days is match play. Nations go head-to-head, with two foursomes matches in the morning and five singles matches in the afternoon.

This year because of COVID the competition is taking place at 5 different venues. 19 of the 30 teams are competing at Royal County Down.

The Scottish Team: Hannah Darling, Louise Duncan, Chloe Goadby, Hazel McGarvie, Lorna McClymont and Shannon McWilliam.

Dunbarton and Argyll win West Inter County Matches

At the start of day 3 three of the counties were in contention to win. In a close match with some close games between Ayrshire and D&A , D&A won by 4.5 to 3.5.

This meant that D&A could only be beaten if Renfrewshire beat Lanarkshire. After 6 games were completed the score in that match  was 3 all but Lanarkshire won the last 2 games at the 18th to win 5 to 3.

Death of Past President

It is with much sadness that I announce the death last night of past president and captain, Margo Bauer.
She celebrated her100th birthday in April.

Margo has also been President of SLGA and Chairman of LGU and was a vice president of
 SLGA.
She was a lovely lady who always had a smile and greeting for everyone. She supported the county well, attending county events long after she gave up playing and until her health prevented her.
We extend our sympathy to her family.

Louise wins Amateur Championship

Many congratulations to Ayrshire's Louise Duncan who today won the Amateur Championship at Kilmarnock Barassie Golf Club. She had a great win over Joanna Lee Ludviksdott from Iceland by 9&8.

Louise is the first Scottish player to win the British Amateur in 24 years
