Many Congratulations Katie- Selected to Represent Scotland

From the  Iowa Western Reivers Website

Freshman Katie Graham was recently selected to represent her home country of Scotland at the 'The Spirit International Golf Championship' in Whispering Pines Golf Club, Texas. The tournament brings together a 4-person team consisting of 2 men and 2 women from countries from around the world and will take place Nov. 1st thru Nov. 7th.

The Spirit International Golf Championship remains the premier showcase for the world's top amateurs. It was formed in 1999, by Houston philanthropist Corbin (Corby) J. Robertson, Jr. . With a passionate vision Corby turned the SGA into reality by establishing a unique charitable organization that benefits health-related causes while promoting the global goodwill of amateur golf.

The Spirit alumni have gone on to win over 650 professional titles, 25 major championships and 17 Olympic appearances. They include 16 PGA Tour winners, 25 European Tour winners, 23 LPGA Tour winners and 21 Ladies European Tour winners.

"I'm honoured to be able to represent my home country of Scotland as well as Iowa Western and look forward to playing with my teammates," said Graham. "I'm really happy where my golf game is right now, and I'm excited to learn more about this event and the different contributions this organization provides."

Katie will team up with fellow Scottish golfers: Carmen Griffiths (University of Louisville), Eric McIntosh (Northwestern University) & John Paterson (Colorado University). This is a great honour for Katie and a great promotion of Iowa Western Community College and recognition of our golf program.

Death of County Stalwart Margaret Duncanson

It is with much sadness that I announce the death of Margaret Duncanson who died peacefully in her sleep  on Thursday at the age of  97.

She was a great supporter of the County. She was secretary from 1982-93 .

She was, for a number of years, secretary of the Scottish Counties Association  until it was taken over by the SLGA. She cut the cake at the Scottish Counties Centenary celebration in Edinburgh.

Margaret was a member of Cawder Golf club .  She continued her interest in the club and in the  County. She last attended the Coffee Morning in 2018 when the top photograph was taken.

She recently moved into a nursing home where she died.
