Winter Foursome Result

In the last match of the first round of the Winter Foursomes at a blustery Cathkin Braes Golf Club Pauline Warlow and Carol McKinnon beat Jean Maddock and Edna Taylor at the 17th.
The closing date for the next round is 15th December.

Winter Foursome Results

In a first round match at East Kilbride Golf Club Roxy Brown and Kay Cherrie defeated Gail Campbell and Moray Meechan.
They will now play Winnie Cossar and Margaret Porteous who at Drumpellier GC  defeated Dawn Warnock and Shirley Dalrymple. 
Remember the closing date for the first round is 30th October.

Molly and Kirsten play well in Junior Champion of Champions

Molly Richmond and Kirsten Brown competed in the Junior Champion of Champions at the Dukes yesterday . This was won by the Scottish Girls Champion, Fiona Liddell.

Scotland finish 10th in Texas Spirit International

Scotland, represented by Ewen Ferguson, Grant Forrest, Jess Meek and Rachael Taylor, finished tied 10th overall in a field of 20 countries at The Spirit International better-ball tournament which ended at Whispering Pines Golf Club, Texas yesterday.
Ferguson and Forrest had better-ball rounds of 73, 66 and 67 for a total of 206. They finished joint 14th in the men's section.
Jessica Meek and RachaelTaylor finished tied 10th on 204 in the women's section with scores of 69, 69 and 66. (par 72) 
United States were overall champions - by one stroke from Mexico and also headed the men's section.
Mexico won the ladies' title by four shots from England who came with a last-day surge to finish second.

Champion of Champions played yesterday

Yesterday Lanarkshire Champion, Lesley Lloyd, and Kirsten Brown , West Champion, competed in the Scottish ladies Champion of Champions at Glasgow Gailes. The Championship was won by Gabrielle Macdonald, Craigelaw, who won the centenary Scottish Championship two years ago at Prestwick.

Sad death of young golfer

Extremely sorry to hear of the death on Tuesday of Heather Neilson, a Junior member of the County until 2 years ago and a full member last year. Heather was a keen and very able golfer and a very nice girl. She was studying Forensic Science at the University of the West of Scotland. This is a sad loss of a young girl and only daughter and we send our deepest sympathy to her parents.
Heather's funeral is on Wednesday 14 October at 2.00pm in Carstairs Village Church.

Katie wins West Girls Championship

Congratulations to Katie Scott, Strathaven ,who won the West Girls Championship at Troon today by beating Jennifer Rankine, Haggs Castle, 2&1 in the final.

Yesterday Scotland lost 6 1/2  - 1 1/2 to England, Lesley Lloyd and Sheena Wood winning their foursome match. Ireland beat Wales 6-2
Today Scotland lost  5-3 to Wales, Lesley and Sheena again winning their foursome. England beat Ireland 5-3.

Sad News

I am very sad to announce the death today of former County Secretary Helen Heggie  at the Marie Curie Hospice.
Helen  was  a very able secretary from 1998 to 2005 and  until recently, when unable to  due to injuries, was a regular player in county competitions.
Helen was also a Past Captain and Handicap Secretary of Sandyhills Golf Club  and a member of Drumpellier Golf Club. She will be missed.
We send our sincerest sympathy to her husband and family.
Funeral is on Thursday at 10.00am at Daldowie Crematorium.

A Historic Day for Scottish Golf

Scottish Golf, the new unified governing body for the sport in Scotland, has teed off its first day by securing a major sponsorship deal with Aberdeen Asset Management as the organisation unveiled its new look.
At an historic day in St Andrews, the Home of Golf, the new body – an amalgamation of the Scottish Golf Union (SGU) and the Scottish Ladies’ Golfing Association (SLGA) – was launched in the company of a number of Scotland’s leading tour professionals and amateurs, joined by local youngsters from the ClubGolf programme.
Aberdeen Asset Management global golf ambassadors, former Open champion Paul Lawrie, Scotland’s highest-ranked player Marc Warren and Ladies European Tour duo Pamela Pretswell and Carly Booth, teamed up with Walker Cup star Ewen Ferguson and last year’s Scottish Ladies Amateur champion, Gabrielle Macdonald, to celebrate the occasion.
