SGU vote yes to Amalgamation

A single unified national governing body for amateur golf in Scotland is to be created after the shareholders of Scottish Golf Union Limited (SGU), its 16 Area Golf Associations, today unanimously voted through the Proposal to amalgamate with the Scottish Ladies’ Golfing Association (SLGA).
Following an historic 16-0 verdict delivered by the Area Golf Associations at an SGU Extraordinary General Meeting at the Stirling Court Hotel, the SGU and SLGA will amalgamate into a new company, to be called Scottish Golf Limited.
The new company will come into existence on October 1, 2015.
In February, the Membership of the SLGA backed the Proposal to amalgamate with the SGU by a unanimous margin of 204 – 0 at their Annual General Meeting,

Pamela has third top 10 finish in a row

Despite an upset stomach all week in Morocco, Pamela Pretswell signed off with a 69 for a six-under-par aggregate of 278 and a joint eighth finish behind two-stroke winner Gwladys Nocera (France) in the Ladies European Tour's Lalla Meryem Cup tournament event which ended today at Golf de L'Ocean, Agadir on Morocco's western Atlantic coastline.
The Hamilton player's earlier rounds were 70, 68 and 71 against a par of 71. She earned 10,350 euros.
Pamela told Kirkwoodgolf by E-mail:
"Delighted with my result this weekend as I haven't been well this week unfortunately! But played some solid golf and delighted to have my third top 10 in a row. This is my sixth top 10 on the LET in total.
"I was planning on come home to play on the Ladies Tartan Tour event at Murcar Links Thursday-Friday this week but sadly I won't be playing
"I need a few days' rest to recover from this trip to Morocco and  get back to full fitness. Should be back in Scotland on Monday.
"Hope all goes well at Murcar and I will hopefully be able to play some other Ladies Tartan Tour events throughout the season."

Pamela Pretswell continues to perform well on Tour

Pamela Pretswell finished sixth in the World Ladies' Championship in China on Sunday. The following is an extract from an article by Nick Rodger on Tuesday in The Herald this week. If you want to view the full article go to

"Pretswell continues to make significant strides, though, and her share of sixth place in a strong field at the World Ladies’ Championship at Mission Hills was another sizeable step. It was the 25-year-old’s second successive sixth-place finish on the circuit and one achieved in a line-up containing Inbee Park, the five-time major winner and current world No.2; Suzann Pettersen, the world No.5; and the new world No.6, So Yeon Ryu, who pipped Park to the title in China on Sunday.
Two years ago, when Pretswell achieved her first aim of safeguarding her tour card at the end of her rookie season, the former British Women’s Amateur" Strokeplay champion from Lanark expressed the hope that she could “reassess my goals and raise my expectations a bit more”. Pretswell is not one for making bold claims but as she continues to gain a stronger footing on the women’s circuit, there is no reason why she should not be targeting that breakthrough victory. She has had a trio of top-five finishes and played in the final group of the Sberbank Golf Masters in Prague last season."

Coffee Morning voted a success

Over one hundred people attended our Coffee Morning  at Strathaven Golf Club this morning. It was good to see so many of our members and a good number of non members in attendance.
Not only was it an enjoyable morning but it was also a financial success raising £1,100 for our funds.
Thank you to all those who donated raffle prizes and to all who contributed before and on the day. Thank you also to Strathaven Golf Club for the use of their clubhouse and Strathaven Rural Centre for the tasty baking.

Congratulations to Pamela Pretswell who finished tied sixth on seven-under-par 209 alongside Charley Hull of England in the New Zealand Open at Clearwater GC , Christchurch after a final round of 73..Pamela would have finished joint third but for a double bogey 5 at the short 16th.
